Can Two Developers Share One Play Console Account?
How co-founders and teams should share one Google Play developer account: invite users with permissions instead of sharing a password.
Short answer
Yes, but not by sharing a password. The account owner invites the other developer as a user with specific permissions under Users and permissions. Each person signs in with their own Google account, and the account (and its testing requirement) belongs to the owner.
The right way: invite users
Play Console lets the account owner invite other Google accounts and give each one permissions, from read-only to full admin, for the whole account or for specific apps. Go to Users and permissions → Invite new users, enter the email and pick permissions. The invited developer accepts and works from their own login.
Sharing the owner’s password is a bad idea. It triggers security checks, makes it unclear who did what, and puts the whole account at risk if the other person’s device is compromised.
Who owns what
- The developer account belongs to the person or organization that registered and verified it. The developer name on the store listing comes from that account.
- Invited users don’t own anything. Removing them doesn’t affect the apps.
- The testing requirement applies to the account type. A personal account created after November 13, 2023 must run the 12-tester, 14-day closed test for each app, however many people are invited to help manage it.
Co-founders: personal or organization?
If you’re building a business together, an organization account is usually the cleaner long-term choice. It isn’t tied to one person’s identity and isn’t subject to the personal-account testing requirement. It does need a D-U-N-S number and organization verification. Compare both in personal vs organization accounts.
Can invited users be testers?
Yes. Anyone, including teammates, can be on your tester list. Like you, they shouldn’t be the reason you reach 12. Reviewers want evidence that people outside the team used the app. See can you count yourself as a tester.
Frequently asked questions
Can I transfer an app to my co-founder’s account later?
Play Console supports transferring apps between developer accounts, subject to Google’s requirements. Check the current transfer help page before relying on it.
What permissions should a co-developer get?
Give the least they need. Release managers need permission to release to testing tracks, while marketing help may only need store listing access. Admin access can be granted later if needed.
