Where Is the “Apply for Production” Button in Play Console?

Can’t find where to apply for production access in Play Console? Where the option appears, why it can be greyed out, and what unlocks it after closed testing.

Updated 3 min readBy the TestersZone team

Short answer

It appears on your app’s Dashboard in Play Console once your closed test has met the requirement: 12 testers opted in continuously for 14 days. Before that, the dashboard shows your testing progress instead, and Production stays locked. If you’ve met it and don’t see the option, give the counter a day to update.

Where to look

Open Play Console, select the app, and go to the app’s Dashboard. For personal accounts created after November 13, 2023, the dashboard has a section that tracks the testing requirement. When both conditions are met, it shows an option to apply for production. Clicking it opens the questionnaire with three sections: about your closed test, about your app or game, and about your production readiness.

Labels in Play Console change from time to time, so if the wording differs slightly, look for the testing-requirement card on the dashboard.

Why it’s missing or greyed out

What you seeLikely reason
Progress shows fewer than 12 testersNot enough testers opted in. Invited isn’t the same as opted in. See 0 testers opted in.
12 testers but fewer than 14 daysClock still running. Check the date with the calculator.
Both met but no buttonThe status can lag. Wait up to a day and refresh.
Your account is an organization accountThe requirement doesn’t apply, so there’s nothing to apply for. Production is already available.

Before you click it

Apply only when you can answer the questionnaire with specifics: how many testers really used the app, what they reported, and what you changed. Our production access guide walks through each section. Rushing an application with vague answers is the most common reason for a rejection.

After you apply

Google says review usually takes seven days or less but can take longer (see review time). Keep your closed test running and your testers opted in while you wait. If you are declined, you won’t want to restart from zero.

Frequently asked questions

Can I apply before the 14 days are up?

No. The application option appears only once 12 testers have been opted in for 14 continuous days.

Do I need to stop the closed test to apply?

No, and you shouldn’t. Keep testers opted in while Google reviews your application, in case you need to improve and re-apply.

Can I save a draft of the application?

Write your answers in a document first so you can review them calmly, then paste them in. That also gives you a record if you need to apply again.
