Play Console Identity Verification Problems: How to Fix Them

Identity verification stuck or rejected in Play Console? The common causes (name mismatch, blurry ID, address, payments profile) and how to resolve each one.

Updated 3 min readBy the TestersZone team

Short answer

Most failures come from a name or address that doesn’t exactly match your ID, an unclear photo of the document, or a mismatch with your payments profile. Fix the details so they match your government ID character for character, upload a sharp photo of the whole document, and resubmit. Don’t create a second account to get around it.

Common causes and fixes

CauseFix
Legal name differs from ID (nickname, missing middle name, different order)Use your name exactly as printed on the ID
Address doesn’t match documentsUse the address on your ID or proof-of-address document
Blurry, cropped, or glare-covered photoDaylight, flat surface, all four corners visible
Expired documentUse a valid, unexpired ID
Payments profile in a different nameUpdate the payments profile linked to the account
Card not in your legal nameUse a card in your own legal name if asked

The payments profile trap

Your developer account is tied to a Google payments profile. If that profile has an old name, a business name or a different address, verification can fail even with a perfect ID. Check it in your Google payments settings.

If it’s still stuck

  1. Read the exact message in Play Console. It usually says what failed.
  2. Correct the details and resubmit once.
  3. Wait. Reviews can take several days.
  4. Contact Play Console support through the help centre if it’s been a long time with no update.

What not to do

  • Don’t open a second developer account. Google can link accounts, and multiple or duplicate accounts can lead to suspension.
  • Don’t use someone else’s documents. The account must represent the real developer.
  • Don’t edit or crop the ID image digitally.

While you wait

You can usually keep building: set up the app, prepare listing assets and line up testers. Once verified, you can publish a closed test quickly. See create a developer account for the full sequence.

Frequently asked questions

Which ID documents are accepted?

Google asks for a valid government-issued ID. Accepted types vary by country, so follow the options shown in Play Console.

Can I change the account type after verification fails?

Account type is chosen at registration. If you picked the wrong one, contact Play Console support rather than creating a new account.

How long does verification take?

Often a few days, sometimes longer. Correct details on the first try make it faster.
