How to Add an Account Deletion Link for Google Play

If users can create an account, Google Play requires an in-app deletion path and a web link. What both must do and how to build the web page.

Short answer

If your app lets users create an account, Google requires both an in-app path to delete the account and associated data, and a web link where users can request deletion without reinstalling. Add the web link in Play Console’s Data safety section, and actually delete the data when asked.

What Google requires

From Google’s account deletion help page:

  • Apps that let users create an account from within the app must provide an in-app path to delete the account and associated data. Make it easy to find, for example in account settings.
  • You must also provide a web link resource where users can request account and data deletion, even after uninstalling.
  • The web page must load correctly, reference your app or developer name as shown on Google Play, and make the request easy to find.
  • When you delete an account, you must delete associated user data too. You may keep some data for security, fraud prevention or legal reasons, but must disclose that.

The in-app path

A clear Delete account option in Settings → Account. A good flow:

  1. Explain what will be deleted and what (if anything) is kept and why.
  2. Ask for confirmation (re-authentication if needed).
  3. Delete the auth account and user data on your backend.
  4. Sign the user out and confirm.

With Firebase Auth, delete the user record and their Firestore/Storage data together, ideally from a trusted server or Cloud Function so nothing is left behind.

The simplest compliant version is a page on your site that:

  • Names your app and developer.
  • Explains the steps (sign in and delete in-app, or submit a request).
  • Offers a form or email address that accepts a request.
  • States what data is deleted and the retention period for anything kept.

Add this URL in Play Console under App content → Data safety (the deletion questions ask for it).

Test it during your closed test

Ask two or three testers to create an account and delete it. It’s a real feature, and it gives you another concrete item for your production access answers.

Frequently asked questions

How fast must I delete data after a request?

Google requires deletion of associated data. Your privacy policy should state your timeframe and any data you must keep, with reasons.

Do apps without accounts need a deletion link?

The requirement applies to apps that let users create an account. Without accounts, the account deletion questions don’t apply in the same way.

Can deletion be a support email only?

The web resource must let users request deletion. An email can be part of it, but the page must clearly explain the steps.
