Do Closed Testers Have to Leave Feedback?

Feedback isn’t part of Google’s 12-tester rule, but the production access form asks what testers told you and what you changed. How to collect it.

Updated 3 min readBy the TestersZone team

Short answer

Not for the counter. Google’s rule is only about 12 testers staying opted in for 14 days. But the production access questionnaire asks about the feedback you received and what you did with it, and Google’s help suggests giving testers a clear feedback channel. Without feedback, your application has little to say.

What Google asks for

Google’s help for the requirement recommends you “provide a clear feedback channel, such as email, a website, or a messaging forum”. The production access application then asks about your closed test, including how testers engaged and what you learned. The most convincing answers quote real, dated feedback and point to the fixes you made.

Feedback channels that work

Google Form after each taskLowStructured, easy to quote
In-app feedback buttonLowestBest, includes device context
Daily check-in with notes (TestersZone)LowDated, verified, exportable

Ask better questions

“Any feedback?” gets silence. Ask:

  • What did you try to do, and did it work?
  • Where did you hesitate or get confused?
  • What would make you open this again tomorrow?

Testers who want to help but don’t know how can read how to give useful app feedback. Send it to them.

Turn feedback into evidence

Keep a simple table: date, tester, issue, action, version fixed. When you apply, you can write “we received 46 pieces of feedback; the top three issues were fixed in versions 1.0.2-1.0.4” instead of “testers liked it”. Our feedback triage guide shows how to sort it quickly.

Frequently asked questions

How much feedback is enough?

There’s no official number. A few specific notes per tester over 14 days, plus at least one issue you fixed, gives you real material for the questionnaire.

Can testers leave private feedback on Google Play?

Yes. Testers can send private feedback from the Play listing of a test app. It tends to be short, so pair it with your own channel.
